Welcome listeners to Part 2 of my interview with Brett Gajda who is master of ceremonies of the show called: “Where There’s Smoke”. The title of this episode is: Wherever You Are, You Can Get Where You’re Going – that is a message of courage – and in Part 1 (Episode 035) we talked about courage – the courage to create something from nothing.
The first story of courage was about a man named Frantischek in who gave his life to create freedom for others as the borders of Czechoslovakia were closing in 1950. The second was about Frantishek’s wife who without skills or language created a new life for her family in a new world called Canada. And the third story was of the grandson, Brett Gajda, and his courage to start from nothing, and start over, to tell the stories that he had to tell, has to tell.
For the courage to be an entrepreneuer, to create, to place onself in the public eye not for the sake of power but for the sake of giving what you believe only you can give.
In this episode – I pull in the last 3 minutes of part 1. Brett both recognizes that he can’t create his show Where There’s Smoke, without a partner with very specific technical skills and personality, and also that he has no money to pay that perfect person, but places an advertisement for the position anyway. Brett reflects on the word hustle, and how through this interview he recognizes not only himself as an entrepreneur, but his father for the immigrant entrepreneur he was. He shares deeply of how if father was the glue that held a family, a business and a community together.
I ask Brett about his show, and what he’s trying to do with it. He talks about his grandparents and family being willing to be an outsider, not taking the easy path, and how that compels him to create from his vision, versus trying to satisfy some target customer. I ask him about his Czech secret sauce, and his insights on how entrepreneurs in Czechoslovakia can move forward. He answers with humility and wisdom. Lastly, Brett takes some time to appreciate this show – The Immigrant Entrepreneur, my interview style, and calls it a work of art! Yes!!!
If you have few or no resources – This episode encourages and shows a path of how to create a partnership, a success in the making – from nothing.
